Mid-Year Mic Check – My Top 10 Song Picks of 2024 So Far

Somewhere I heard that music is a great way to help with memory recall. When I listen to 90s music it brings me back to simpler times, my childhood, a carefree era of my life when worries were minimal and days were spent playing. Early 2000s music brings me back to my adolescence, coming of age, growing up fast and that in-between feeling of being a child and a young adult. I love the idea of music having the ability to bring us back to a specific time and place in our lives where we can almost picture and feel exactly what life was like back then, like an audio Time Machine.

For this reason, a few years ago I started making a playlist for every year, so when I’m feeling nostalgic for a certain time I can throw on playlists of music I was listening to in years past and reminisce. Spotify’s Discover Weekly playlists have been absolutely instrumental in the process of piecing together new playlists full of the music that currently speaks to my soul. Sometimes it’s creepy how much Spotify just “gets me,” but they do and I don’t ask questions.

We are almost halfway through 2024 and I feel I’ve made a good start on this year’s playlist. Here are my top 10 songs so far that I’m listening to this year, in no particular order.

1. Back On 74 – Jungle

2. Unweaving the Rainbow Forever – Feng Suave

3. Borderline Insane – Matilda Mann

4. Foreign Ties – Certainly So

5. Luna – Roosevelt

6. OMG – Suki Waterhouse

7. Daisy Chain – Pixey

8. Seven Nights – Mysie

9. High No More – Hajaj

10. i like the way you kiss me – Artemis
