SiouxperCon: A Nonprofit in Name Only? Lack of Community Impact and Transparency Raises Concerns
At first glance, SiouxperCon is an exciting, community-driven event that promises to engage fans of pop culture and promote education through its nonprofit status. However, a deeper look reveals troubling gaps in the organization’s operations. SiouxperCon’s social media marketing focuses almost exclusively on promoting the annual convention, while offering little to no information on how it is positively impacting the community beyond the event itself. The fact that the nonprofit lacks any stand-alone programming and seems to exist solely to run this event raises significant concerns about its legitimacy and effectiveness as a nonprofit. The Role of a Nonprofit: It’s More Than Just Hosting Events Nonprofits are expected to work…

Thrifting Magic: My $14 Stained Glass Lamp with a Twist
I’ve always been a fan of thrifting, but sometimes the stars align, and you stumble upon something really special. Recently, I found an incredible stained glass lamp shade at Goodwill for only $10. At the time, I had no idea what I’d do with it, but I couldn’t resist the colors and craftsmanship. A couple of days later, the thrifting gods smiled on me again—I found the perfect lamp to pair with the shade at another Goodwill location for just $4! With the two pieces finally in hand, I had a spark of creativity. I popped a grow light bulb into the lamp and placed a baby golden pothos I’d…

Mid-Year Mic Check – My Top 10 Song Picks of 2024 So Far
Somewhere I heard that music is a great way to help with memory recall. When I listen to 90s music it brings me back to simpler times, my childhood, a carefree era of my life when worries were minimal and days were spent playing. Early 2000s music brings me back to my adolescence, coming of age, growing up fast and that in-between feeling of being a child and a young adult. I love the idea of music having the ability to bring us back to a specific time and place in our lives where we can almost picture and feel exactly what life was like back then, like an audio…

Garden Update
Mother’s Day Phew, what a day! It’s been busy at work lately. Last week I had a three day commercial production for Sanford Children’s which was super fun but also super exhausting. I was glad to be done and get on with the weekend! Mother’s Day was lovely. I got spoiled by the family as always which was super sweet. Ben and the kids got me a new mug for tea, a watercolor set that I’ve been wanting recently and a sock knitting book. I’m a lucky gal, that’s for sure! Garden Update Also a tradition on Mother’s Day in our family is to begin preparing the garden. I started…

Aurora Borealis
Yesterday while I was working my brother reached out to tell me the northern lights would be visible because of a solar storm. For context, when I was around 13 and my brother around 12, our parents got us out of bed to come outside and see the northern lights. It was truly one of the most magical experiences of our young lives. The colors were so beautiful and vivid and it was like nothing we’d ever seen before. Fast forward to now, last year my brother, Isaac, and I all headed north to try to get another peek at the northern lights. That night we could just barely see…
